Working togetherAs an efficient, caring team Guardian Flight maintains a leading edge with the highest level of training for our medical crew, pilots, and support staff.
Started in 1997 by Frontier Flying Service, Guardian Flight grew rapidly over the next three years. In 2000, Guardian Flight separated and emerged as a stand alone, physician owned critical care air ambulance service. The primary base located in Fairbanks serves all of Interior Alaska and contains the communications center. Guardian Flight established a satellite base in Sitka, Alaska in 2004 and added an additional base in Ketchikan, Alaska in 2005 to better serve Southeast Alaskan communities. In 2006, Guardian opened a third satellite in Anchorage, and a fourth in Dutch Harbor, Alaska to serve the Aleutian and Western Alaska communities in 2007. When Guardian Flight receives a call the operation happens quickly and safely for the best patient care. Within minutes, a Guardian Flight communication specialist sets in motion a coordinated emergency response network; contacting pre-hospital flight and medical teams, arranging ground transportation and coordinating transfer from the referring facility to the receiving hospital within moments of the initial call. Each of Guardian Flight’s communication specialists train and certify with National Association of Air Communication Specialists as well as employ a sophisticated flight tracking program; furthermore knowledge of Alaskan caregiver capabilities benefits the care of patients The Commission of Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems awarded Guardian Flight, accreditation on April 1, 2006.
Having a Part 135 FAA certificate we fly Lear 35 Turbojets and Beechcraft King Air 200 twin turboprops. Providing long range pressurized flights or access to shorter airstrips, our aircraft are on alert status for urgent medavac response 24/7 at each base. The aircraft are always fueled, equipped for any emergency, pre-flighted and kept in a heated, secure hangar at each of their respective primary airports. Fairbanks and Anchorage are additionally supported by two ground ambulances at each location. All locations are complimented with two pilot crews, flight nurses, flight paramedics and leading edge equipment and medications. Guardian Flight provides highly skilled flight nurse/paramedic teams to care for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients. Crews care for the patient from pick up to drop off during interfaculty transports. From remote locations the patient is cared for from point-of-care to the hospital. Specialty teams are available for neonatal/infant/pediatric transport, maternal emergencies, complicated ventilator patients and non-urgent arranged medical charters to or from any Alaskan community. Guardian Flight’s level of care is second to none in Alaska; we adhere to National Consensus Standards for Critical Care (CAMTS). Training with the physician owner is frequent and on-going. Consultation is immediately available via satellite phone from the field or the aircraft. Medical transports are based on medical need – not on ability to pay. Fees for Guardian Flight transports are based on distance of flight. Reimbursements by insurance companies are the main method of payment for Medavacs. In order to ensure further cost-effective transports Guardian Flight started Guardian Flight Air Care to further make our quality services more affordable. |
